Scotch Slate

Very rare hard to find.

  • Scottish slate has been used as a roof covering on traditional buildings in Scotland for centuries.
  • There were at least 80 slate quarries in Scotland at one time , currently there no quarries left.
  • Scottish slate is often described as having a rougher texture and being more irregular than other types, particularly Welsh slate.
  • We repurpose reclaimed Scotch slate into signs , coasters and commissioned work
  • We recently worked with a whisky distillery in the highlands to make coasters from Scotch slate from one of their old distillery buildings for rare special presentation boxes.
  • For signs these are best suited to Rustic signs due to the nature of the slate.

Italian Black Slate

The black slate is extracted and worked on site It is beautiful thanks to its black homogeneous color without grains. Black slate has been used to decorate patrician homes both outside and inside, it was also used to decorate religious places and over the centuries the genoese extracted and sold all over the world this stone used both for construction and for decorative objects.
The product is considered ideal for construction thanks to its very hard composition and thanks to its transpirability, its resistance to high and low temperatures; it is also ecological and long lasting.
Most of our slate signs are made with this slate due to the slate being able to be worked to a highly smooth consistency. This makes the slate more uniformed in appearance once we have sanded and polished the slate. Available in various sizes but all 20mm approximately in thickness.
